 Why Roshni
Even though the literacy rates in Pakistan have been improving, the pace is very slow and almost non-existent in case of orphaned abandoned children. These children are victims of abuse-molestation, starvation and virtually without any medical facilities.
  • Pakistan ranks among the lowest countries according to the human development index of UNDP.
  • With an estimated 150 million people, it is the 6th most populous country in the world.
  • Annual population growth rate is 2.4% and with this growth rate Pakistan's population is expected to cross the 295 million mark by the year 2050.
  • Of the millions added to the population each year , only half have will have access to any formal education-the remaining will never see the inside of the school.
  • Out of 159 million Pakistani's , 92 million adults of age 15 years and above (58%) are illiterate.
  • 47% of all male adults of age 15 years and above are illiterate whereas for females the percentage is as high as 72%.
  • Male primary , secondary and tertiary enrollment is only 43%.
  • Female primary, secondary and tertiary enrollment is only 31%.
  • The state of Government schools is very poor; 15% of them are without a proper building, 52% without a boundary wall , 40% without water, 71% without electricity and there is frequent absenteeism of teachers.
  • Government expenditure on education is only 1.8% of GDP.
Considering the conditions of educational indicators and facilities in Pakistan there is an immense and pressing need for better educational facilities. In particular, what is needed is better education for the lower income brackets of the society. Roshni Homes is working towards providing better quality education and lifestyles for the most destitute and needy in the society.
At Roshni Homes we have a firm belief in quality. Quality is the hallmark of Roshni Homes. We are providing the best possible facilities to our children. When compared to other orphanages, Roshni Homes stands out from the rest because of the standards and quality maintained we insist on maintaining. One of the most unique features of Roshni Homes is that we maintain a strict criterion for the selection of our children. This selection criterion has evolved after a deep study of the children' behavior in our initial stage. This criterion would go a long way in helping us achieve our objectives i.e. to help the deprived children through higher education to become productive members of the society. Other orphanages do believe in the education of the orphans but we are the first one in Pakistan to realize the importance of providing higher education to the deprived children. Our children are showing the best results in academics which foretell their success in future. During the past two years, three of Roshni children, on average, have stood first in their respective classes and average marks attained by Roshni children are 92%. Our children go to the best schools of the city. All of our children are admitted to the Garrison Academy and Army Public School which are among the best English Medium schools of Gujranwala city. The facilities enjoyed by a Roshni child are better than any other orphanage.
Another point where we differ from other orphanages is the selection of caretakers for the children. It is common practice to appoint illiterate women as mothers in orphanages but all the mothers appointed in Roshni Homes are at least graduate level because we believe that only educated mothers can produce an educated generation. Along with the graduate mother, a senior tutor who has a masters in Education is also employed to ensure quality in education. Each mother is taking care of seven children while in other orphanages each mother has to take care of 12-15 children. This helps us in giving individual attention to each child which is the cornerstone of the proper upbringing of a child. All these features make Roshni Homes different from other orphanages in quality, not in quantity.

At Roshin homes we maintain a strict criterion for the selection of our children. This tough selection criterion ensures that only deserving students are accommodated. Once the children are taken in they get quality treatment and we ensure that the children enjoy a comfortable life style. This selection criterion has evolved after a deep study of the children' behavior in our initial stage. This criterion would go a long way in helping us achieve our objectives i.e. to help the deprived children through higher education to become productive members of the society.

To this end we provide them with best available education. We don't rely on in-house academic education and our children are enrolled in the premier educational institutions of the region. All of our children are admitted to the Garrison Academy and Army Public School which are among the best English Medium schools of Gujranwala city. Other orphanages do believe in the education of the orphans but we are the first one in Pakistan to realize the importance of providing higher education to the deprived children.

The results of this care and hard work are apparent in the academic success of our children. Our children are showing the best results in academics which foretell their success in future.
